Usually I avoid using critic’s notes to promote our wines…call me shy, but Karen MacNeil’s comments were so wonderfully wacky I just had to share them: “I’m not sure how a wine can take on the character of a psychological thriller, but this one has. The ‘unhinged’ – almost savage – energy of flavors in Ojai’s (pronounced ‘oh-hi’) Syrah is mesmerizing: cedar, incense, spice and a deep, rich, red meatiness, like an oxtail stew that has simmered for hours. But as primordial as the aromas and flavors are, it’s the choreography – the way this wine dances and moves on the palate – that leaves you most impressed. Among wine industry insiders, Adam Tolmach, the owner and winemaker of the tiny Ojai Vineyard, is considered to be one of the best (if unsung) winemakers in California, and he certainly does have a flair for complex Syrah”. 95 points Karen MacNeil – Decanter

Press Reviews

Antonio Galloni’s Vinous

“Ojai’s 2013 Syrah Solomon Hills Special Bottling is stellar. Deep, unctuous and powerful in the glass, the 2013 exudes richness from the very first taste. A host of dark cherry, plum, mocha, spice and dried herbs are fused together. The Solomon Hills is the richest and most overtly concentrated of the 2013 Ojai Syrahs I tasted. Ideally, readers should cellar the 2013 for at least another year or two to allow the aromatics to fully open up.” -AG 96 Points
