Upper Ojai, Ventura County

It is exciting to release another wine from the great 2010 vintage. At Roll Ranch cool summers produce the most profound wines because the vines have time to slowly and thoroughly ripen their fruit. This viognier achieved the perfect balance of aromatic intensity, freshness and textural development at relatively low sugar levels. It has aromas of lemon peel and lime, with a whiff of flowers; it is quite subtle and intriguing. The flavors are mineral, juicy and floral. This is one of those white wines that will develop gracefully for ten or more years if stored properly.

People seem to notice that The Ojai Vineyard wines have a singular sensibility. And lots of tasters realize that by design I am not trying to make typical California wine, and they know there are flavor realms out there beyond the usual sweet and heavy, and see that savory and refreshing wines are clearly more interesting.

Blend: 100% Viognier | Alc: 13.5% | Vinification: 100% Neutral French Oak | Barrel Aging: 11 Months | Total Production: 278 cases

Press Reviews

Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar

“Pale yellow. Fresh, precise scents and flavors of orange, green apple, white flowers and ginger. Sappy and broad on entry, then tighter in the mid-palate, with striking clarity to its juicy citrus and orchard fruit flavors. Finishes very long and lively, with excellent focus and cut. According to Tolmach, “too much viognier is too opulent, without the energy to be truly satisfying.” – JR 91 Points
