Our most elegant syrah yet from organic and biodynamic Presidio Vineyard. Always exotically aromatic, this one is all peppery and animaly with red berry notes, and has a silky texture that many of our previous efforts lacked. This is due to changes in the fermentation techniques we are using, trying to extract the character of the grapes in a more gentle way that emphasizes fruit and minerality and minimizes excessive tannins. Mind you, this is no lightweight: the color is so dark one can hardly see through the glass. And while it drinks quite well now, it could use five to ten years of further bottle aging before it reaches its peak.

Blend: 100% Syrah | Alcohol: 14.5% | Vinification: 20% New French Oak | Barrel Aging: 20 Months | Total Production: 183 cases

Press Reviews

Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar

“Glass-staining purple. Powerful aromas of cherry, blackberry, smoky minerals and vanilla. Lush and creamy on the palate, offering sweet, liqueur-like dark berry flavors and a jolt of peppery spices. Finishes bright and delineated, with gentle silky tannins coming on late. This flamboyant syrah is delicious right now but has the depth to age.” – JR 93 Points
